有感地震 An earthquake large enough to feel

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

written by Electra
So I happened to be awake at 12:30-ish tonight to suddenly notice our 団地 building wobbling. It felt kinda wiggly, as if it were being shaken by the wind. The wind has been strong lately…
But our giant projects building (← see photo to left) doesn’t wobble in the wind.
Sure enough, when [...]

Golden Week 誕生日

Monday, May 5th, 2008

May 5 is my birthday. That’s 誕生日 in Japanese. So yesterday I celebrated it, mostly with Roy but then with friends in the evening. Luckily, it is on a big holiday here in Japan — 子供の日 — which is in the midst of a large cluster of consecutive holidays. Those are Japanese [...]

プリクラ

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Electra has (unfortunately?) become quite enamored with プリクラ. Luckily, Roy and her other friends go along with it.
Above is Electra and her friend Haruka. Haruka is adorably sweet! This プリクラ was taken after we sang at a カラオケ館 called “Karaoke Mash!”, where I sang lots of Queen, The Beatles, and some Disney. [...]

THE YEN IS STRONGER THAN THE DOLLAR!!!!! Or should I say, the penny. Basically, 1¥ can buy more than 1¢. For a very long time, 1¥ could only buy about 0.9th of 1¢, and conversely 1¢ could buy 1.18¥.
Whooooaa. The dollar has really plummeted, yo.

まま働いています。

(PreS. You can hover over the Japanese characters for a romanji-ization.)
So, much to the disappointment I’m sure of our friends back in the ‘States who desparately miss us and want us to come back, we have decided to recontract for another year. Or rather, a long discussion with our bank accounts and various other [...]

Electra Buys A Kimono (set)

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

This is Takeuchi Kimono and Obi. Its a store I recently discovered. I walked past their uritsukushi display (seen here to the left) and was blown away by kimono and obi and obi linings and tabi and obi-tying rope and etc. etc. etc. But I was too timid about being unknowledgeable to go [...]

Yeah, Electra still likes parks.

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

This is a continuation of my “I like to take pictures of parks” entry, because I want to tell y’all that I’ve updated the photo albums a bit but that its mostly pictures of how beautiful it is here, and not much about our daily life (which is what I imagine you actually want to [...]

Sapporo is beautiful.

Our Home

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

This entry is all about our apartment.
First, our apartment building is right HERE. Next, here is a diagram of our apartment:

Western-type doors (ones with handles) are green with hashes, Japanese-type doors (sliding) are slim rectangles, and closets are lilac. Bookshelves are the slightly lighter brown and desks/tables are the slightly darker brown. [...]

Arriving in Sapporo and going Home

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

After our trip from Tokyo to Sapporo, we are greeted in Chitose Airport by taxis. We are efficiently bundled into them and sent to our new workplace: Chieria. There, we get a whilrwind “Here’s the room where you’ll be sitting for the next few weeks while at work; here’s the staff room where [...]
